Day 29 to Telluride

We started the day with a slight downhill and an even slighter tailwind. It was nice. We averaged around 16mph for the first 30 miles. We passed this crazy guy who rides his goofy recumbent bike every single day all through the summer and winter.

Then we stopped for a snack break and ran into someone even crazier. His name Tom and he has been on his bike for 14 months in his journey around the world. He started in London where he is from and cycled all through Europe and Africa and then flew over to Miami two months ago and met us in Colorado. He is riding for a charity called War Child and has raised over $40,000. Common donors! Step it up!
It was nice riding with a 3rd person. There was a pretty strong headwind that picked up in the afternoon. It was nice riding with a like minded(abet crazier) cyclist. He has had an amazing journey and we loved hearing stories. We talked him into taking a day off with us in telluride.

We had another pass to climb today.
It was quite a long climb but we got this on the other side:

Climbing hills is so much more rewarding than fighting headwinds.

We called our planned warm showers host and told him we picked up a stray cyclist. He was more than happy to welcome all three of us to his home. It was a beautiful mountain house and we were talked into taking a day off and exploring the area. Don is a wonderful host. He is a pain management doctor and also works on several other projects, developing surgery centers, working with marketing projects etc. He is also the consul for Botswana. We had a good discussion about life paths and plans for the future.

We had a delicious dinner and a nice hot tub soak and good conversation. We also met Russ, who is going to be cycling around the area with his 20 year old daughter. Russ works for Spartan Races as a race director. He scouts locations and works in building courses. He is going to give me a job.

Then we went to sleep.
