Day 26, Rest Day #1 in Spring Valley

It felt so good to not be on our bikes for an entire day.. It was kind of weird, but it was nice to just rest.

We tried to sleep in, but our body clocks still woke us up around 8:15, which was still pretty late compared to what we were used to. We got up and looked at the beautiful view. Their living room looks out onto Pike's Peak and below a wonderful little lake and a rock formation in their backyard. It's an amazing place to be!

The night before we celebrated my birthday! Woohoo!

Alec helped my grandpa install some new bird feeders outside!

We all cooked a great breakfast of fried eggs and pancakes (I was the pancake master of the morning) and had pancake-egg sandwiches. It takes FOREVER to cook in high altitude though... The house is at about 9015 feet.

And relaxed on the couch...

And relaxed in the master bedroom, we took over the bed!

And on the awesome rock formation behind their house taking in the beautiful view.

My Grandpa showed us this awesome tree on their property. One tree that grew around an Aspen. He thinks it is like that because when Native American tribes used to live in the area when they would go to hunt they would mark their trail by wrapping two small trees around eachother -- this one apparently never unwound itself and one grew around the other. Very cool!

And we of course played many games of pinball -- the machine at the house is really old and really cool, and lots of fun. Alec was very into it!

And after eating a fantastic meal that my Grandma prepared for us of turkey and this great squash dish and salad, we watched the sunset from the rocks. Which was, of course, beautiful.

We had a great, restful, beautiful day at my grandparents' house. We're ready to get back on our bikes tomorrow!!
