The Tough Turtle

Alec decided to run a 5K obstacle course run, The Tough Turtle! He helped set up the race course with his trail running class that he teaches through Cornell Outdoor Education (we love COE!), but he wasn't entered in the race. He got the OK to do it anyway from the coordinator, and then he won! Well he technically got 2nd, but he purposely got 2nd because he was worried about the implications of winning and not being entered! He did a great job and it was lots of fun to watch him run!

Seneca 7

This past Sunday Alec and I, and 5 others (Olivia, Melanie, Joe, Amy, and Anna) did the Seneca 7 -- a running race with 7 team members 77.7 miles around Seneca Lake! There were 21 legs and each team member ran 3 legs and about 11 miles each. Alec and I decided to bring our bikes as well so we could ride in between our legs to get some biking in.

Unfortunately, during Alec's first running leg (he was runner 3!) his derailleur got bent in such a way that it got caught in his spokes when in the highest gear! What a drag! So we had to pack up his bike in the trunk for the remainder of the day.

But luckily I still got to keep riding! The other people on our team took my bike while I was running and a couple more to give me some rest, so I probably rode about 50 miles.

It was a great day,  and we all had fun! (and are definitely sore today!) We ended up finishing the 77.7 miles in almost exactly 12 hours, and at the finish there was chili, cornbread, juice, and other yummy things that tasted amazing after the long day!
Alec's bike hangin out the back of the car!

Olivia and I after putting our temporary tattoos on -- we all did sea creatures! Fun fun

Me handing off to Alec after my last leg! I was unaware of the picture, but they planned the whole thing and are standing behind our hand off!

Around Cayuga Lake!

Two weekends ago on Saturday Alec and I rode 88 miles around Cayuga Lake! It was our farthest ride so far in our training and was lots of fun! It started out a really nice day - perfect for riding!

We stopped about two hours in for some really yummy french toast at a little restaurant.

With 41 miles to go and halfway around the lake we were feeling good!

With about 20 miles to go I took a little break on the side of the road...!

We got back right at dark - it took us about 9 hours including breaks. It was lots of fun, and we were tired!

Test Tour-Finger Lakes National Forest

Last weekend Allie and I went on a short tour to test out her new bike and get some more miles outside.  We stayed at the backbone campground (the only open campsite anywhere close to here) in the Finger Lakes National Forest. It was a little chilly at night and a great trip! Here are some pictures and more details from the ride:

Us outside of our dorm, getting ready to leave.

Entrance to the park:

We took a little detour along miles of this seasonal highway that was a mud road. We got stuck so many times. This 5 mile section took us longer to get through than the first 15. Was a fun challenge but we went a different way home!

My brakes were having a little trouble with all the mud..

The beautiful sunset and our cute little tent:

On the way home, we found this giant turtle park. Ithaca has so many cool things that most people probably don't get to see.

One last thing...

This is what happens when you unclip your left foot and lean to the right..

Happy April Fools Day. More info coming soon!
