Day 7

Woohoo, one week of riding (almost) done! Right now we are sitting out a rainstorm while under an overhang at the "Cozy Inn Bar and Grill" on the way to stay at Phil Duvall's house, one of our friends from Cornell who lives in Pittsburg. The owner of the restaurant actually offered for us to sleep under this overhang for the night if the rain didn't let up -- so nice! He said this town is safe and mild and that there should be no problem. We're definitely going to make it to Phil's tonight, but Alec is at least taking a nap here it seems! I'm not quite sure why he chose under the table though...

We started out on our bikes at about 7:20 this morning (a little later than we had hoped) after eating some YUMMY breakfast sandwiches that the chef and his family gave to us for free. Very very nice. He even wrote notes on the containers they were in, which helped us start our day with a smile. A huge thank you to those folks at The Cottage restaurant. Financing our own trip is difficult, and it helps so much when nice people help is out like this.

Today took us some more through the Allegheny Mountains, and we are excited about the elevation gain!

We rode on Highway 22 for the entire day (still have 26 more miles on it after the rain lets up a little bit). It's been quite an adventure with some parts a little scary (especially in the rain which is why we are taking a break) but the shoulder has been good for the most part and it's not as hilly or as long as an alternate route would have taken us.

Alec fell again due to deep gravel next to the shoulder (he fell yesterday too, but I think he failed to mention that in his post yesterday :) ). It wasn't a bad fall (don't worry!) we were going slow at that point, and a snickers bar and a hug cheered him right up.

It was fun to see a turn off for Cornell Road,

And were excited to see the number of miles to Pittsburg declining!

We also stopped to meditate and do some handstands, western PA style, on a tractor.

The rain has almost completely stopped now, and we'll post about getting to Phil's house and our daily stats later on!
