Day 5

Right now I'm sitting outside of a weird campsite office at the end of day 5! We slept in this morning until 6:45 (I can't believe I'm calling that sleeping in!) and ate a yummy breakfast of bananas and dates and granola and orange juice (thanks mom!). We hit the road at 8:15 and stayed mostly on Highway 522 for the whole day, which was nice and had good, paved shoulders for almost the entire time!

We rode past a flea market and stopped to buy some apples!

And we stopped to fill our water bottles up at a Subway, and the SUPER nice lady who worked there who we told about our trip gave us not one, not two, NOT three, but four cookies for FREE!!! We love free things, and cookies, so free cookies were amazing..

We took a "short cut" (according to Alec) and had an adventure hopping a fence back to the highway.

And another unhappy stop at McDonalds... but the people working there were super nice and gave us free cold water bottles!

It got up to 101 degrees today, so we were super hot and had to take frequent breaks. We called it a day a couple miles short at Idle Acres Campground, where we arrived to the "office" to find one of our favorite signs of the day:

An interesting place indeed but we're happy to be here!

Lastly, Alec has a weird thing on his foot.. Warning, it's pretty gross.

Daily stats:

Miles: 57.59
Ride time: 5:18:36
Average speed: 10.84
Max speed: 32.66
Elevation gain: 2387 ft
Highest temperature:100.7

Another favorite sign from the day:

That one confused us, but excited us at the same time.

And this one was good too:

Now it is 7:15 and I'm getting ready to go to sleep hopefully by 7:30!

Haiku of the day:

Hot hot hot,
Hot hot hot hot hot,
Free cookies.
